The Green Bay Packers did not play their best on the road on Sunday afternoon against the Chicago Bears, but one player stepped up when his number was called upon. Wide receiver Christian Watson finally showed his full potential in display with having four receptions for 150 yards receiving in a 20-19 win over the Bears.
With Green Bay trailing 19-14 in the fourth quarter, Watson had a 60-yard reception, which eventually led to the game-winning 1-yard rushing touchdown by Jordan Love. Christian Watson will need more big games like this for the Packers moving forward.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Praises Wide Receiver Christian Watson After the Win
Last season, Watson missed several games because he had several issues with his hamstring. This season, he has been relatively healthy for the most part. After the game, head coach Matt LaFleur praised the former North Dakota State Bison wide receiver in the win against the Bears. LaFleur said to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
““Obviously, not everything has gone his way here, but he is a resilient dude. I love the guy.”
In this game, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Romeo Doubs didn’t have much on display against the Bears’ defense. Wicks didn’t have a catch. Romeo Doubs only caught one pass for 17 yards receiving and Jayden Reed caught two passes for 23 yards receiving and a touchdown.
Josh Jacobs was the second leading receiving in this game for the Green Bay Packers with four receptions for 58 yards receiving. It really has been a mystery this season for the Packers who will be the leading receiver on a week-to-week basis.
Watson Stats
This season, Christian Watson has caught 20 passes for 383 yards receiving and two touchdowns. He is averaging 19.1 yards per reception. Watson mentioned to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic after the game:
“It’s been a little tough just in terms of me and my individual goals. But I mean, as cliche as it sounds, I’m always going to put the team goals first. We played some good football and some not-so-good football at times, but we’re right where we want to be at as a team, so I’m just going to continue to do my part, and if it’s opportunities like today, I’m going try my best to make those plays. If it’s opportunities elsewhere, in the run game or whatnot, I’m going to make those plays, too.”
Watson this season has decided to do things that are in the best interest of the football team and not himself. They are 7-3 this season. The former North Dakota State Bison wide receiver will look to have another big outing next weekend against the 5-5 San Francisco 49ers.
