The Green Bay Packers 2024 season was a season that fell short of its ultimate goal of trying to win a Super Bowl. The Packers finished with an 11-6 record during the regular season and Green Bay lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the wild-card round.
One of the strengths of this football team during the 2024 season was the safety position. Xavier McKinney was a home run signing for the Packers this offseason. McKinney played well for the team all season long.
CBS Sports Writer Tyler Sullivan Lists Xavier McKinney As the Green Bay Packers MVP For the 2024 NFL Season
CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan wrote an article about each team having an MVP player for the 2024 NFL season. For the Green Bay Packers, he listed safety Xavier McKinney as the team MVP for the year. Sullivan said:
“The “other” former Giants player who had a tremendous first season away from New York was McKinney. After inking a four-year, $67 million contract with the Packers last offseason, the corner went out and put together a First Team All-Pro season in 2024. In 17 games played, McKinney finished the year with 88 tackles, a sack, 11 pass breakups and eight interceptions. In coverage, he allowed just a 78.5 passer rating against.”
He recorded a lot of interceptions early in the season for the Green Bay Packers. The signing was worth it for general manager Brian Gutekunst and the rest of the team. It will be interesting to see what McKinney can do for an encore next year. Packers fans are shocked that the New York Giants did not re-sign him during last offseason.
Argument For Josh Jacobs To Be Team MVP
There is also an argument for Josh Jacobs to be the team MVP for this season. He was also another free agent signing for the Green Bay Packers this offseason. Jacobs this season rushed for 1,329 yards on 301 carries and 15 touchdowns, along with averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He also caught 342 yards on 36 carries and one touchdown, along with averaging 9.5 yards per reception.
Jacobs was the main focal point of the offense this season. Jordan Love, the starting quarterback, had too many up-and-down moments. Love was not healthy for a portion of the season. Malik Willis won a couple of games as the starting quarterback. Xavier McKinney was probably the right choice for the Packers MVP this season, but Josh Jacobs also has a case as well.
