Without a doubt, signing safety Xavier McKinney was one of the best decisions the Green Bay Packers made in the offseason. It is among the most impactful free-agent acquisitions so far in the 2024 NFL season, and McKinney has the numbers to show for it.
In five games this season, the 26-year-old McKinney already has as many interceptions. He has a five-game interception streak going, and he could add to that this coming weekend when the Packers face off against Kyler Murray and the dangerous Arizona Cardinals offense.
Green Bay Packers safety Xavier McKinney is a star on and off the field
But apart from McKinney’s tremendous play on the field, fans also appreciate his ways off of it. Just take for example the gesture he showed to a group of fans in Inglewood last Sunday following a 24-19 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
“A group of #Packers fans spotted Xavier McKinney strolling with his luggage across field toward team bus. So they lost their collective minds, screaming like he was a Beatle, until McKinney stopped and signed. It’s been 5 games. McKinney already getting star treatment.”

During the Rams game, McKinney became just the first player since the merger in 1970 to have a defensive interception in every one of his first five games with a new team.
“Those were plays that we need and that’s complementary football,” McKinney said after the game, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).
“And we did that very well today. I’m glad the offense went down and was able to score,” McKinney added, referencing the touchdown scored by Packers tight end Tucker Kraft off of the extra possession Green Bay got from the interception.
