Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson has yet to see a full practice with the team in the offseason since he suffered a devastating ACL tear injury in the team’s final game in the 2024 NFL regular season.
Watson is expected to land on the reserved/PUP list, which would mean he’s set to miss at least the first four games of the coming 2025 NFL campaign. While that would be lost time for him, one thing that Watson isn’t lacking is confidence.
A fan wrote to Mike Spofford of Packers.com, asking if it’s possible that the senior editor of the team’s website could request a one-on-one race between Watson and rookie Matthew Golden.
The fan wrote: “Regarding your recent article and Christian Watson’s statement proclaiming he is still the fastest player on the team. Once Watson is fully recovered, can you please organize/request a race between him and Matthew Golden once he is fully recovered? What a spectacle that would be.
“Indubitably,” Spofford responded.

Watson still thinks he’s got the fastest wheels among Green Bay Packers players

Despite the injuries he’s had, Watson seems to believe that no one on the team is on his level when it comes to speed.
“No doubt,” said Watson when asked if he remains the fastest Packer today (h/t Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers’ website). “I’ve been saying it to everybody who has anything to say. I’ll race anybody right now and I’m still taking the dub.”
A race between Watson and Golden, at least on paper, sounds exciting. There’s zero doubt that both players are fast. Watson posted a 4.36 in his 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL combine. Meanwhile, Golden had a 4.29 in his 40-yard dash at the 2025 NFL combine.
