The Green Bay Packers, and every other NFL team, are trying to navigate their 2025 training camp and preseason by holding fierce and competitive practices while trying to avoid serious injury. Unfortunately, in a sport as violent as football, injuries are bound to happen, and the Packers have already lost offensive lineman Travis Glover for the season due to a shoulder injury. Other teams, too, have had to rule out players, some of them among their most important contributors, for the season.

Rashawn Slater, the left tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers who just signed a $114 million contract extension, was lost for the season after tearing his patellar tendon in practice.

But for players like Slater, who are established NFL stars, injuries, while unfortunate, do not generally cost them a future in the league. But for young undrafted free agents or veteran journeyman, such injuries leave some big questions regarding their NFL futures.

One such player that has found himself bouncing around the NFL in recent years is former Packers wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown, Green Bay’s sixth round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. After spending the first four years of his career with the Packers, St. Brown spent two years with the Chicago Bears, but has been traveling from team to team as of late looking for a roster spot.

Unfortunately for St. Brown, injuries have not helped him. He missed the entire 2019 season with injury, and in 2023 spent much of the year in Chicago on injured reserve. Last year, he spent most of the season on the New Orleans Saints practice squad, but was not re-signed by the team.

This offseason, he has been signed and released by the San Francisco 49ers, but then re-signed again after a couple of days. However, he will not be playing for them this year as he has, once again, been placed on season-ending injured reserve:

As one can see from the 49ers post, St. Brown is being replaced on the roster by former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Tanner Mordecai, who spent last year on their practice squad. He had previously been released earlier in training camp, but is now back attempting to re-earn his job from last season.
