The Green Bay Packers are recently coming off of a loss on the road to the Buffalo Bills. This is the first time since 2016 that the Packers have lost four consecutive games in a row. They will be looking to get a win in Week 9 against their NFC North rival Detroit Lions.
Packers vs Lions Series History
The Packers lead the overall series against the Lions 105-73-7. Lions QB Jared Goff has a 1-1 record with the Lions when playing Green Bay. Aaron Rodgers has an 18-6 record in his career against Detroit. In the last meeting, the Lions defeated the Packers 37-30 at Ford Field.
Packers Offense NFL Week 9 Preview
Green Bay lost to the Bills by a score of 27-17 last Sunday night. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers went 19-28 for 203 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The running game showed some improvement. Aaron Jones had 20 carries for 143 yards, and AJ Dillon carried the ball 10 times for 54 yards. Even though neither running back scored a touchdown, it was nice to see more touches.
The big highlight of the night was the touchdown catch made by rookie wide receiver Romeo Doubs. He had four catches for 62 yards and one score. Along with another Packers rookie receiver Samori Toure who caught one pass for a 37-yard touchdown in the game. Of course, Green Bay has to score more points on offense. No doubt, that they will want to play well in Detroit. Getting more offensive consistency and production is a must going forward.
Lions Defense NFL Week 9 Preview
The Lions’ defense was not able to do enough against the Miami Dolphins last week. They lost the game at home 31-27. Amani Oruwariye was the leading tackler with 8 total ( 6 solo). The entire defense combined for 62 total tackles throughout the game. The Lions were flagged with penalties that may have stopped their momentum at times. The Lion’s secondary seemed to be what was lacking for the Lions. Not able to stop their receivers from catching passes or scoring in the second half against Miami. Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa went 29-36 for 369 yards and three touchdowns. Raheem Mostert had the most yardage on the ground with 14 carries for 64 yards.
Wide receiver Tyreek Hill had 12 receptions for 188 yards. While Jaylen Waddle was right behind him with 8 catches for 106 yards and 2 touchdowns. The third score came from their tight end Mike Gesicki on 3 catches for 38 yards.
Detroit will do their best to slow down Packers running back Aaron Jones, and the rest of their offense. They will have the home crowd on their side with their division rival coming to Ford Field this week.
Packers Defense NFL Week 9 Preview
The Packers’ defense gave up 27 points to the Buffalo Bills. Mainly in the passing game as Josh Allen completed 13-25 passes for 218 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Allen had 6 carries for 48 yards running in the game as well. Devin Singletary was slowed down a bit with 14 carries for 67 yards. The defense allowed just over 150 yards rushing, a small improvement from previous games.
Bills wide receiver Stefon Diggs had 6 catches for 108 yards and one touchdown. There was some chatter between him and Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander who picked off Josh Allen during the game. The other score came from Dawson Knox. Out of the two interceptions thrown by the Bills QB. Rasul Douglas was able to bring in the other interception for the Packers’ secondary.
Green Bay played decent on the defensive side. Having to account for a dual-threat quarterback and their star wideout. Rasul Douglas led the defense with six tackles and one sack for the Packers. De’Vondre Campbell was sidelined in the game with a knee injury and did not practice on Wednesday. They will need a strong performance to face the Lions’ rushing attack on the road.
Lions Offense NFL Week 9 Preview
Detroit was unable to keep or maintain the lead against Miami. At halftime, they were ahead by 10 points. Jared Goff went 27-37 for 321 yards and one passing touchdown. Lions running back Jamaal Williams had 10 carries for 53 yards and two scores. Running back D’Andre Swift scored a passing touchdown with 5 catches for 27 yards.
Former Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson was the leading receiver with 3 receptions for 80 yards. Hockenson will not be in a Lions uniform on Sunday. As he was traded to another NFC North team in the Minnesota Vikings during the trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon. On the receiving end, they combined for 321 yards in the air.
Detroit may not have a lot for receivers, but they certainly have playmakers in the run game. The Packers have an opportunity this upcoming week if they use their strengths on offense and can stop the run defensively.
Green Bay will play the Detroit Lions on November 6th at Ford Field on Fox!
