The Green Bay Packers had one of the best scoring defenses in the 2024 NFL regular season, as they allowed just 20.0 points per game, good for sixth overall in the league. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be concerned about their defense, as the team looks to find ways to get better in the NFL offseason.
For one, their pass rush was subpar. The Packers were in the upper half of the league with a 7.42 percent sack rate but there surely is room for improvement still in that area for Green Bay.
Will the Packers chase a game-changing defensive weapon in the NFL offseason?
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, the Packers need to get an “impact edge rusher,” mentioning a couple of star AFC pass rushers as worthy targets for Green Bay.
But the devil on Gutekunst’s shoulder should entice him to trade for a Maxx Crosby or Myles Garrett, no matter how much it takes or how unlikely it seems given the Packers’ organizational history with such trades (if they’re even on the block). That would show urgency and could vault Green Bay into Super Bowl contention
Crosby and Garrett are not going to be cheap pursuits for any team taht would want to kick the tires on either player. The Las Vegas Raiders star has a $22.236 million base salary for the 2025 NFL season while the Cleveland Browns defensive end has a 2025 cap hit of $19.722 million.
Adding either Crosby and Garrett would be huge for Green Bay, to say the least. Both players are capable of singlehandedly changing the defensive complexion of any game – and could positively impact the Packers’ status as a Super Bowl contender.
