Green Bay Packers History With the Draft
The NFL draft has never taken place in Green Bay. Despite being one of the most iconic and historic franchises, the Green Bay Packers have never been able to host the NFL draft. For many years the draft took place in New York City, but Philadelphia and Chicago have also been home to the draft for multiple years.
The last time the draft took place in the state of Wisconsin was in 1939 in the Schroeder Hotel. The draft has not been back to the state ever since. To say that the draft coming to Green Bay is good news is an understatement.
Impact on Green Bay
The NFL draft has become a large-scale production and showcase over the years. The NFL draft averaged around 6 million viewers per day according to Front Office Sports. Not only is it one of the most watched events of the offseason, but fans from all around the country show up to support their teams.
The draft will be held around Lambeau Field and Titletown according to the NFL. The Packers have invested a lot of money into Titletown and the area surrounding their iconic stadium, and now fans from around the nation will get to experience it firsthand. Green Bay is by far the smallest city to host the draft in the modern era.
The 2024 draft will take place in Detroit before making its way to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2025. Packers president Mark Murphy estimates an economic impact of $94 million from hosting the draft. Hosting the draft is something the entire city, state and organization should be proud of. The Green Bay Packers will host the first NFL draft in Wisconsin in over 80 years.
