One of the biggest questions surrounding the Green Bay Packers this offseason has been their cornerback depth. That being said, it really has been, or should have been, a concern for the team in each of the past two seasons. Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander, of course, was rarely on the field for the majority of Green Bay’s regular season games in these years, and has since been released after the two sides could not agree on a restructured contract.
In addition to Alexander, though, the Packers also saw Corey Ballentine, Eric Stokes, and Robert Rochelle leave in free agency. As a result of these departures, many believed Green Bay would stock up on more cornerback depth during the offseason.
However, instead of making that position a main priority, the Packers limited their additions to Nate Hobbs in free agency, Micah Robinson in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and switching wide receiver Bo Melton to the position.
The Green Bay Packers Feel Good About the Cornerback Position

With many members of their secondary having left the team, the Packers decided to rely on their own personnel, along with Hobbs, to take up the majority of the defensive snaps. Hobbs was signed to be a starter along with returning players Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine.
In addition to these players, Green Bay also has Kamal Hadden, Isiah Dunn, Kalen King, Garnett Hollis, and the aforementioned Melton. Safety Javon Bullard also played better when in the nickel position last season, and could very well see time there again this year.
Still, many fans expressed concern throughout the offseason that the team may not have done enough to address the position. Interestingly, though, Alexander missed 20 games over each of the last two years and Rochelle primarily played special teams. Stokes was never the same player he was as a rookie following his injury either.
The Green Bay Packers Bring Back Corey Ballentine

This all being said, the Packers did see it in the team’s best interest to reunite with one of their formerly departed players. Ballentine had previously signed with the Indianapolis Colts in the offseason, but was released late last week.
Today, the team announced that they had re-signed him:

To make room for Ballentine on the roster, Green Bay released cornerback Gregory Junior.
In three seasons with the Packers, Ballentine appeared in 37 games, recorded one interception, and seven pass breakups. He primarily played special teams, seeing the field in 51% of the snaps.
