The Green Bay Packers are facing an uphill battle in regard to advancing in the NFL Playoffs. As was the case last season, Green Bay has the seventh seed in the NFC and must play the second seed on the road. Last year, they upset the 12-5 Dallas Cowboys in a 48-32 blowout.
This year, the Packers finished the season 11-6, an improvement over their 9-8 record in 2023. However, their opponent in this Wild Card game, the Philadelphia Eagles, finished 14-3 and are widely predicted to beat Green Bay this weekend.
Of course, most everyone believed the Cowboys would do the same last year before Jordan Love the Packers offense shocked the world.
Green Bay Packers Quarterbacks Jordan Love and Malik Willis Are Active Despite Injuries in Week 18
As fans recall all too well, Green Bay dropped their last two regular season games, both to division rivals. As if a Week 17 loss to the 14-3 Minnesota Vikings was not bad enough, the Packers dropped their regular season finale to the lowly Chicago Bears.
Worse still, wide receiver Christian Watson tore his ACL during the game, meaning that he will be out for the NFL Playoffs and the start of next season. Both of Green Bay’s quarterbacks, Love and Malik Willis, also sustained injuries, though not as serious.
Love lost feeling in his throwing hand after hitting his elbow on the ground when he was taken down by Bears defenders. He was removed from the game and replaced by Willis, who hurt his right thumb.
While both quarterbacks were limited participants in practice on Wednesday, both were practiced fully on Thursday and Friday and do not have designations for the matchup with the Eagles, meaning that they will play (or at least be available, in Willis’ case).
The Green Bay Packers Signed Sean Clifford to the Active Roster Ahead of Wild Card Game vs Philadelphia Eagles
On Saturday afternoon, it was reported that Green Bay has decided to sign a third quarterback to their active roster ahead of the game on Sunday.
#Packers signed QB Sean Clifford from practice squad to active roster, giving them third option behind Jordan Love and Malik Willis for Sunday’s wild-card game in Philly.
Love and Willis were full participants Friday and dropped from injury report, but depth is never a bad idea.

Sean Clifford, who was Love’s backup last season after the Packers drafted him in 2023, did not perform well enough in training camp or preseason games for the team to be comfortable with him in the same role this season. That is why Brian Gutekunst acquired Willis via trade with the Tennessee Titans to begin with.
After Green Bay traded for Willis, they released Clifford. However, they re-signed him a day later to be on their practice squad.
Clifford has been activated from the practice squad twice this season, both games in which Love was inactive due to injury early in the season.
Now as the emergency quarterback for the game against the Eagles, Clifford will not count towards the 48 players the Packers are required to have active.
