Green Bay Packers receiver Romeo Doubs has been rumored off and on the trade block for months now. Speculation waned with the offseason, but his recent Instagram post has fans wondering anew about a potential departure from Green Bay.
Green Bay Packers, Doubs Have Held At Times Tumultuous Relationship
Last season was not a smooth one for the former fourth-round pick. Between injuries and behavior problems that led to a team-imposed suspension, Doubs was limited to 13 games. Like the rest of a Packers receiver group that tied for the leaegue’s third-most drops, he suffered from a bad case of butter fingers. Doubs finished with 46 catches for 602 yards and four scores.

Now that the Packers have Matthew Golden, selected 23rd in the 2025 draft, Doubs’ role should only diminish. Already the subject of high hopes, Golden has impressed in training camp. He, Jayden Reed, and tight end Tucker Kraft look like the top three targets for quarterback Jordan Love ahead of this season.
Doubs did nothing to temper the drama that has swirled around him by posting a cryptic photo Sunday on Instagram.
#Packers star WR Romeo Doubs posted this picture on his IG story.

Obviously, Steph Curry doesn’t look too thrilled. The photo was taken during the second half of Golden State’s blowout loss to Cleveland in Game 3 of the 2016 Finals, a series the Cavaliers would go on to win coming back from a 3-1 deficit.
Commenters proffered a number of explanations for Doubs’ choice of media. Most popular among them was that Doub was hinting at a coming trade. If he is unhappy with his place on the depth chart, he might make a stink that prompts the Packers to move on from him. Or he might be unhappy because the team has indicated behind the scenes that a trade is indeed in the works. Publicly at least, they have not committed to anything so bold.
Fans’ natural first reaction was to send him along to the Steelers, where former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers signed this offseason.
Alternatively, a hopeful Packers backer suggested the team replace him with Washington’s disgruntled star receiver Terry McLaurin. With Golden’s emergence, though, Green Bay seems content with the current group and is more likely to unload talent than acquire it.
Indeed, once Christian Watson returns from injury, receiver room will be rather crowded. Given Watson’s low trade value while hurt and big-play potential when healthy, Doubs would be the most natural outgoing veteran.

Overanalzying or Reading Between the Lines?
One of the photo’s other implications, of course, is Curry’s superstar status, a comparison that ill fits Doubs’ place in the NFL. He may be “disgruntled,” but he isn’t a match for the “disgruntled star” label that frequents headlines around big-name trade rumors.
One fan trolled Doubs by replacing Curry in the pic with an image of bench guard Gary Payton III. If Doubs does go elsewhere, he’s unlikely to transform from role player into one of the game’s elite passcatchers.
Others conjectured that the Packers receiver was implying his wish to spend his career with a single franchise, the one that drafted him, as Curry has done in the NBA. Perhaps the picture just reflects his disappointment over likely spending more time on the bench this season. Maybe, as someone else speculated, he’s just a Curry stan: for whatever reason, a Curry stan feeling blue.

Or maybe all this speculation is ridiculous, although it seems that whenever an athlete posts some inscrutable tidbit, it’s an indication of some kind of drama going on behind closed doors.
If Doubs does wind up elsewhere before or during the season, plenty of Packers fans won’t regret losing his attitude issues in the locker room or his inconsistency on the field.
