Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs was having a very good week before the Packers hosted Family Night at Lambeau Field on Saturday night. Doubs has been going at it all training camp long against cornerback Jaire Alexander. Iron has been sharpening iron throughout training camp, improving the team.
There has been a lot of noise this offseason and training camp about who will become the top wide receiver in this offense. Doubs appears to be separating himself from everyone else as Jordan Love’s go-two wide receiver before the start of the 2024 season.
He will be entering his third season and was a former fourth-round draft pick out of Nevada. In front of 60,000 fans, Doubs was able to continue to shine in the spotlight and it is a preview of what is potentially to come this season.
Romeo Doubs Scores Two Touchdowns During Family Night With Green Bay Packers Fans In the Stands
Doubs will be a threat in the red zone for the Green Bay Packers this season. Green Bay is going to find a way to line him up against the other team’s number two and three cornerbacks. On Saturday night, Doubs beat Eric Stokes for a 6-yard score on a slant route and also beat cornerback Keisean Nixon for a three-year score.
Romeo Doubs said to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic about scoring on the fade:
“Just understanding the situation, timing, most importantly, and that’s part of why the practice habits play a huge role. We hit on a fade and I just know from this point on forward that we’re going to keep progressing and continuing to practice those reps because ultimately, we want to make them easier in a game.”
What Doubs is doing in camp this season, especially in the red zone, is what everyone thought Christian Watson was going to be for this team. Watson can still help them in other ways. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks will also seed the field this year for Green Bay. Also, it will not be a debate about who will be the Green Bay Packers top receiver much longer if Romeo Doubs continues to ball out during camp.
He performed well during training camp last year. Romeo Doubs caught 59 passes for 674 yards receiving and eight touchdowns, along with averaging 11.4 yards per catch. He also was targeted 96 times. Doubs has a chance to go over 1,000 yards receiving this season for the Packers if he performs like this.
