The Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears will face off against each other for their final game of the 2024 NFL season on Sunday. For Green Bay, it is the last hurdle in what has turned out to be another successful season, overall, that has resulted in yet another appearance in the NFL Playoffs. For Chicago, well, it has been an absolute debacle.
After starting their season 4-2, the Bears have lost 10 games in a row. They fired head coach Matt Eberflus and are, once again, looking towards the offseason for a reason to hope that next year will be better.
Indeed, the Bears have been one of the more disappointing and poorly run teams in the NFL over the last several years. This has led many Chicago fans and writers to look around the league for individuals that they would most like to have from other organization.
One Chicago Bears Writer Would Like to Steal Robert Saleh from the Green Bay Packers
Robert Saleh started out the year in his regular position as the head coach of the Aaron Rodgers-led New York Jets. However, after a 2-3 start, he was fired.
Granted, Saleh had a poor record as a head coach in New York, but as the Jets’ season has shown since his firing, he was far from being the biggest problem in that building.
Following his dismissal, he was hired by Packers head coach Matt LaFleur to be an offensive advisor on his coaching staff. While Saleh is a defensive-minded coach, he has been working with Green Bay’s offense to help them prepare for different looks various defenses may give them.
And it is Saleh who, if the Bears could steal anyone from the Packers organization, one Chicago writer would want.
Mike Pendleton of Bears Wire recently wrote, “When talking about finding a coach who will coach them hard and be a leader in the locker room, that doesn’t just have to describe the head coach. Saleh was beloved by players in the locker room at every stop, most notably as defensive coordinator in San Francisco, as well as the coach of the Jets.
“With the Bears expected to bring in a new head coach, there will be changes to the coaching staff. It would show a lot of fortitude by the front office to pick Ben Johnson as their head coach, poaching him from the Detroit Lions, and would make quite the duo if they were also able to get Saleh from the Packers.”
As one can see, Pendleton does not think Saleh should be the next head coach of the Bears. Instead, he would like him hired as the defensive coordinator.
Indeed, Saleh will be one of the hottest names on the defensive coordinator market and will be able to interview for a plethora of positions.
It would be a big get for Chicago if they were to hire him, but they should be more concerned with finding the right head coach first.
