Even though the Green Bay Packers were not able to progress deeper into the 2024 NFL season’s playoffs, they still can feel proud about their overall body of work in that campaign. The Packers finished the season with an 11-6 record and saw plenty of big performances throughout the year from a number of players, including, of course, the team’s pair of offseason pickups before the 2024 season in running back Josh Jacobs and defensive back Xavier McKinney.
The man mostly responsible for signing both players with the Packers, Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst, shared immense praises for both Jacobs and McKinney while speaking to reporters last January.

“They were proven players in this league,” Gutekunst said, per Mark Inabinett of AOL.com. “I knew what kind of players they were. You never know when you bring them into your environment if that’s going to continue or not. That’s the one thing. These guys aren’t robots. We were hopeful and we certainly had done the work and expected these guys to be really positive leaders for our football team because they were captains in the places they came from. Certainly, we had spent a lot of time studying both these guys at the University of Alabama, so we kind of knew them. But again, guys change as they grow, and you’re never really sure,” Gutekunst added.
Gutekunst also shared his outlook for both Jacobs and McKinney after the 2024 season.
“I think where they exceeded my expectations was how quickly they embraced our culture here and then how much they positively impacted it at such a fast pace, Gutekunst continued. “Really happy to have those guys. They’re about the right stuff. They certainly made us better this year, and I expect that they’ll continue to do that as we go.”
Jacobs led the Packers’ ground attack in 2024, rushing for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries while also earning his third career Pro Bowl nod. McKinney, meanwhile, had a career-high eight interceptions to go with 11 passes defended and 88 combined tackles in his first season in Green Bay threads. McKinney also got his first-ever Pro Bowl selection with his impressive 2024 campaign.
