After tearing his ACL almost a year ago, tight end Tyler Davis is back at it again for the Green Bay Packers in training camp. Along the way, the veteran opened up about the challenges he went through and how it shaped him along the way.
After playing college football at UConn and Georgia Tech, Davis began his professional career with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. He was waived by the team in 2021 and subsequently signed to the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts. Later that year, Davis was signed to the active roster of the Green Bay Packers.
In his first two seasons with the Packers, Davis has appeared in 31 games, making one start. He has recorded 8 receptions for 61 yards. During the 2023 preseason, Davis suffered a significant knee injury, including a torn ACL, and was placed on injured reserve, ending his 2023 season.
Despite the setback, the Packers have shown faith in Davis, re-signing him in March 2024. With his strong college production and NFL experience, Davis will look to bounce back from the injury and contribute to the Packers’ passing game when he returns to the field.
Green Bay Packers Tight End Tyler Davis’s Emotional Return After Recovering From Injury
After taking around a year to recover, Davis is back in training camp and eager to earn his way back to the field. In an article written by Mike Spofford for the team’s official website, the tight end shared more about coming back from his injury.
The dedication and diligence didn’t just embody how determined the fifth-year tight end was to get back on the football field as soon, and at as close to full strength, as possible. They also served as a reflection of how much he loves this game and how devastating it was to have it taken away for a year.
“I’m glad you guys weren’t out there the first day (during the early reporting period last week) when I broke down after practice and cried,” Davis told reporters following Friday’s fourth public workout of camp. “You don’t take it for granted.”
Although Davis missed the 2023 season, he dedicated himself fully to his rehabilitation, attending meetings and assisting the special teams coach. His commitment and positive attitude throughout his recovery impressed the Packers’ coaching staff.
Now back on the field, Davis is eager to contribute on offense and special teams, eager to embrace his “jack of all trades” role. If he succeeds, Jordan Love and company will become even more of a dangerous unit against their opponents in the NFL.
