The Green Bay Packers have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to pass catching weapons for quarterback Jordan Love. Last season, their offense was the youngest in the NFL and consisted of first and second year players at the wide receiver and tight end positions. While it took about half a season for them all to get on the same page with Love, their 7-3 record in their final 10 games has given fans a great deal to be excited about going into 2024.
One of the key members of Love’s pass catching group is third-year wide receiver Romeo Doubs. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Doubs has shown that he is as reliable a wide receiver as they come, and has shown up in big moments during his young career.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Has Had a Productive First Two Seasons in the NFL
As a rookie in 2022, Doubs had 42 receptions for 425 yards and three touchdowns. He would have had even better numbers, but he missed four games during the season with a sprained ankle.
After future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets last offseason, Doubs spent much of the offseason working Jordan Love so that the two could get a head start on building the chemistry that they would need to be successful.
It certainly paid off as Doubs took big strides in his second season. He finished the 2023 campaign with 59 receptions for 674 yards and eight touchdowns. He was second on the team in receptions and receiving yards and tied for the team lead in touchdowns.
Doubs also became a more sure-handed receiver, lowering his drop total from nine in 2022 to six in 2023, despite playing four more games.
Of course, Doubs is more recently remembered for stealing the show in the NFC Wild Card round against the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, he caught six passes for 151 yards and a touchdown, proving that he can indeed be a big-game wide receiver.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Shares His Goals for the 2024 NFL Season and Praises Jordan Love
During a fundraiser for Tricia’s Troops (for more information, see below), Doubs was asked what his goals for the upcoming season are. In so many words, his goal, like that of the rest of the team, is to bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay.
It really speaks volumes about Doubs that, when asked him his goals, turned the question around to focus on team goals. For months, many analysts have discussed how unselfish the Packers’ wide receivers are, and Doubs’ answer is a perfect example of why they are viewed that way.
Doubs also used the opportunity to praise his quarterback, Jordan Love, for the growth that he made during the 2023 season:
“I always tell people that when my reps started with Jordan, not with Aaron, and that is no disrespect to Aaron Rodgers, all I saw was progression. And he [Love] is just looking forward to the day that is in front of him and he stays in the present moment as much as he can.”
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Romeo Doubs Is Participating in “My Cause, My Cleats” This Season
Since 2016, NFL players have been given the opportunity to wear custom-designed cleats that bring awareness to charities and causes that they are passionate about. In the past, frequent Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee Aaron Jones has participated in this movement, which raises money of charity.
This year, Doubs has made the decision to participate in “My Cause, My Cleats.” The charity he will be representing is Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection, a charity that is named after Tricia Wright, a Delafield, Wisconsin wife and mother who, though diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2011, made it her mission to make sure others who were suffering from cancer, and their families, would have the resources and support they need.
Tricia passed away in 2012, but her family still carries on the mission she undertook in her final months on earth.
Packers legend Gilbert Brown has worked with Tricia’s Troops for years now, helping to raise funds for families affect by cancer. Here is a video (via Mayfield Sports Marketing) of Brown interviewing Doubs at the charity’s annual event:
As seen in the video, Doubs announced that he will be representing Tricia’s Troops for “My Cause, My Cleats” this year.
