Even in Jordan Love’s first year as the starting quarterback leading the NFL’s youngest roster last season, the Green Bay Packers managed to surprise everyone by making the playoffs. This season, though, it looks like they’re going to continue with what worked, particularly the absence of a true wide receiver.
Despite a challenging start to the season with a 3-6 record, the Packers demonstrated resilience and determination, closing out the remaining eight games with a 6-2 run. This strong finish allowed them to improve upon their 8-9 record from the previous season.
Remarkably, the team secured the final playoff spot by winning a three-way tiebreaker based on conference record and strength of victory, alongside the New Orleans Saints and Seattle Seahawks. This achievement made them the youngest team to reach the playoffs since the NFL expanded to 16 games in 1978.
In the Wild Card round, the Packers made history as the first seventh-seeded team to win a playoff game. They defeated the Dallas Cowboys with a 48-32 victory, marking the first time since 1982 and 2007 that the Packers had won a playoff game without the presence of Brett Favre or one-time Super Bowl winner Aaron Rodgers. However, their playoff journey came to an end in the Divisional round when they faced the San Francisco 49ers, who ultimately emerged victorious with a 24-21 win.
The Main Reason Why Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers Don’t Need A Wide Receiver
Due to their success last season, head coach Matt LaFleur and Loev aren’t going to change what’s working with the team. In an article posted by the Packers’ official website, the star quarterback goes into detail why they don’t need a wide receiver.
“I think you don’t have to have a No. 1 receiver,” Love said. “I think it works out well when you can spread the ball out and you got different guys making different plays and you can put ’em in different areas.
I think it puts a lot more stress on the defense and the calls that they can get in, so I think in the long run it helps us not having a No. 1 guy, a true No. 1 guy, but I think all those guys can step up and be the one any given day,” Love said.
As it stands, the Packers will move forward with a passing offense that will involve the team’s tight ends and running backs. In the end, each player on the roster will find the best position to be successful on the field, Love added.
It remains to be seen how the absence of a true wide receiver will work out for Love and company soon. In any case, Packers fans will be excited to find out how the team will perform after an impressive campaign last season.
