The Green Bay Packers are blessed with one of the most loyal and enthusiastic fanbases in all of sports. As the only team that is “owned” by the community in which it plays, the Packers have a stronger connection to their fans than many other teams have to their own. This is obvious by the number of former players that consistently return to Green Bay, during the season and offseason, to interact with the fans.
One of the most recognizable and beloved Packers alumni is Super Bowl XXXI Champion Gilbert Brown. Nicknamed “The Gravedigger,” Brown is a fixture at Stadium View before every home game for his tailgate party with thousands of fans.
A Detroit, Michigan native and resident, Brown makes the drive every week (or every other week, depending on the schedule) to celebrate the Packers and Green Bay with the fans. This summer, he has a special announcement for those fans, especially those that live in Wisconsin.
Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown Announces a New Beer
During a phone call earlier this week, the Packers legend revealed that he is releasing a new beer called Grave Digga, a barrel aged stout. The new beer has been crafted by Torzala Brewing Company, a woman-owned and minority-owned brewery on the south side of Milwaukee.
“Being a Michigan guy who spends a lot of time on the road in Wisconsin, I have really grown to love and appreciate the culture of the state,” Brown said. “And of course, beer is a big part of Wisconsin’s culture.
“But you know what else is a big part of Wisconsin’s culture? Small businesses. I love that so many Packers fans own and support their local small businesses, and that is why I am thrilled that my beer is being brewed by a company that represents the fans that I enjoy so much.”
According to the Torzala website, it is a company that was established in 2021 and is based on the values of “embracing diversity, honoring tradition, supporting local businesses, and appreciating our city from a historical perspective.”
A Special Release for Gilbert Brown’s New Beer
Gilbert Brown will be unveiling his new beer at Champions Riverside Resort in Galesville, Wisconsin on Friday June 14 at a special event from 7:00-9:00 PM. It is open to the public, but only 93 bottles of his new beer will be sold at the event. If any fans are interested in purchasing these rare 22 ounce bottles, they can do so with an exclusive package that includes the beer, a pink Gilbert Brown jersey, and a photo with the Gravedigger himself.
A second batch of 93 bottles will be available for purchase at the Gilbert Brown Foundation Car Show, which will take place on July 15 at the Wilderness Campground in Montello, Wisconsin.
After these events, the goal is for the Grave Digga beer to be made available for more people to purchase. Any fans with questions on where or how to acquire Gilbert Brown’s beer can contact Torzala Brewing Company.
