Green Bay Packers: Nate Hobbs Reveals Tear in Knee, Optimistic for Week 1 Return

Last week, Green Bay Packers cornerback Nate Hobbs was making headlines for how hard he was practicing. Or rather, he was the subject of numerous stories because he was practicing too hard, earning himself a place on the bench during drills and a lecture (or two) from head coach Matt LaFleur.

And while many reporters and fans expressed concern over Hobbs’ aggressiveness, general manager Brian Gutekunst stated that he would rather have to tell a player to tone down their playing style in practice rather than asking them to play harder.

Unfortunately, Hobbs is not going to be able to practice for the foreseeable future after suffering a knee injury late last week.

Over the weekend, it was revealed by the team that Hobbs had sustained a knee injury and was getting a minor surgery done. While not necessary, both the cornerback and team felt that surgery would help him get back on the field faster and give him a better chance of staying healthy throughout the season.

The nature of the injury was not revealed until Hobbs spoke to reporters on Tuesday:

Packers CB Nate Hobbs stood up with a smile when asked how he was feeling after his knee surgery.

He said at Thursday’s practice it was a minor collision that turned out to be something deeper. Said he found out his meniscus was torn on Friday and had the procedure Saturday.… pic.twitter.com/VYKtoinOIK

Hobbs revealed that he had torn his meniscus, but felt that he was going to be ready for the start of the season.

“You see me walking around. I feel good, though,” Hobbs said. “I feel good. I’m blessed. I’m just happy that it wasn’t nothing more serious.

“I’m a professional. I get paid to do this, so anything that’s a concern on my body, I need to try to get on right away. I felt like it was something we needed to do. They gave me the option of whether I wanted to do it the next day or the day after, I’m like, ‘We can do this today. Let’s get ahead of starting to get back.'”
