The Green Bay Packers are making final preparations for their Week 18 matchup with the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon. At 11-5, Green Bay is currently the seventh seed in the NFC Playoff picture, but can improve to the sixth seed with a win and a Washington Commanders loss. That being said, the Packers will be heading to the NFL Playoffs regardless of the outcome of either game.
Unfortunately, Green Bay will be without the services of two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. Earlier this week, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced that Green Bay’s top defensive back was going to undergo season-ending knee surgery to repair his torn PCL. On Saturday, Alexander was officially placed on injured reserve.
The Packers will also be without Evan Williams, Quay Walker, Andre Dillard, and Zayne Anderson.
Christian Watson and Brenton Cox are questionable to play.
The Green Bay Packers Elevate Michael Barrett and Omar Brown from the Practice Squad for Week 18 vs the Chicago Bears
Along with the announcement that Alexander was going on injured reserve, the Packers also announced that they are elevating two players from their practice squad for their Week 18 game versus Chicago:
- Michael Barrett (linebacker)
- Omar Brown (safety)
Barrett, a member of Michigan’s National Championship team last year, was a seventh round pick by the Carolina Panthers in the 2024 NFL Draft. However, he was traded towards the end of training camp to the Seattle Seahawks, who released him and signed him onto their practice squad.
However, they then cut him again on September 10. Shortly after that, he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns and assigned to their practice squad. They released him on October 8.
The Packers signed the former National Champion linebacker on November 30. This is the first time he has been elevated for a game this season.
Brown, however, has been elevated in each of the last two games, though he was a healthy scratch last week. Given the injuries to Williams and Anderson, he is likely going to play a great deal on Sunday.
