The Green Bay Packers may have taken a while before they finally found their man at kicker, but they’re fully committed to Brayden Narveson as the man who’ll help the team make a deeper postseason run with his leg.
The Packers decided to go with the North Carolina State alum as their first-choice kicker for the coming 2024 season instead of going for former Minnesota Vikings kicker Greg Joseph. While the rookie will be coming into the NFL as an unproven talent, the coaching staff found something in him that made them commit their season to him.
While some fans may be questioning whether Narveson is the right fit for the Packers, the head coach immediately gave his vote of confidence to the young man.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur believes in Brayden Narveson’s ability ahead of the 2024 season
LaFleur was fully confident in his new kicker’s abilities as he starts his NFL career with a team trying to make a Super Bowl run.
Per Sports Al Dente’s Brian Anderson:
“Yeah, I’ve seen enough to be confident in him,” LaFleur said. “If that’s what you’re asking: Do I have confidence in him? Absolutely.”
It must be great for Narveson to hear his new head coach giving him all the trust in the world to perform against some of the best teams in the NFC. With the NFC North slowly becoming one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL, having a kicker who can convert field goals and extra-point attempts through high-pressure situations has become all the more important.
During his final year at North Carolina State, he made every single extra point he attempted. While he missed five of his field-goal attempts, the fact that he still performed well against ACC competition, combined with how well he fared in preseason, gives LaFleur every reason to believe that the rookie will be able to perform in the NFL.
