The Green Bay Packers have officially clinched their playoff spot after their Week 16 victory against the New Orleans Saints. However, their seeding will be determined (in part) by how the Dallas Cowboys would fare in their season finale against the Washington Commanders.
Green Bay have an 11-5 record after a 27-25 defeat against the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday. The Green Bay Packers – third in the ultra-tough NFC North with an 11-5 record – are tied with the sixth-seeded Washington Commanders (second in the NFC East).
Green Bay will take the sixth seed if they beat the Chicago Bears and the Dallas Cowboys upset the Washington Commanders. This will be huge since this outcome would see Matt LaFleur’s side take on the Los Angeles Rams rather than the Philadelphia Eagles, with whom they lost in the first game of the 2024 regular season.
However, if the Green Bay Packers win and the Dallas Cowboys lose, Green Bay will stay as the seventh seed.
Green Bay Packers’ Matt LaFleur delivers blunt message to Mike McCarthy
Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is aware of the scenarios in play, so he is cheering for his predecessor to beat the Washington Commanders in Week 18.
“Hopefully, Mike (McCarthy) does us a favor,” LaFleur said last Wednesday via Zach Kruse of the Packers Wire.
Mike McCarthy was the Green Bay Packers head coach from 2006 to 2018. He guided Green Bay to their most recent Super Bowl win in 2011, and he could do his former team a solid in what could be his final game as Dallas Cowboys head coach.
