The Green Bay Packers are about to find out what Malik Willis can do as a starter for the team. They would have preferred to see that in another scenario and not because of the fact that Jordan Love suffered an unfortunate injury to his knee, but that’s just the reality for the Packers at the moment.
The Packers have declared Willis as a starter for this coming Sunday’s game at Lambeau Field against the Indianapolis Colts. Many Green Bay fans expected to see Love starting for the Packers in the team’s home opener this season, and now they have to cheer for Willis, who was acquired from a trade with the Tennessee Titans just before the start of the 2024 NFL season.
What Green Bay Packers players are saying ahead of Malik Willis’ start
While it is fair to doubt the abilities of Willis as a starter, his teammates are just looking to do their part in order to make the situation easier on Sunday for the third-year quarterback.
“It’s everybody being on the same page, really listening to the game plan from the coaches,” tight end Tucker Kraft said, per Mike Spofford of Packers.com. “It’s going to be a big game for each individual on offense to be locked into the game plan.”
“Yeah, we all can help him, doing our 1/11th, whether that’s blocking for him, getting open or getting the ball, wideout Dontayvion Wicks said. “It’s all on us. I think our receivers want to help. We will.”
The Packers are coming off a 34-29 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil in Week 1, and they will look to avoid a 0-2 start. The last time Green Bay lost its first two games of a season was in 2006.
