To take the next step in 2025-26, the Green Bay Packers will need some of the new pieces on the roster to elevate the core of established players. Offensively, there is no one with higher hopes than rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden. After being selected in the 2025 NFL Draft’s first round, Golden has already been drawing eyes in training camp. Quarterback Jordan Love is confident Golden is going to be a “stud” and recently explained what he sees in the young receiver.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Calls Rookie Matthew Golden a “Stud”
Quarterback Jordan Love plans on taking the next step in 2025-26, looking to propel the Green Bay Packers towards another Super Bowl appearance. Rookie first-round wide receiver Matthew Golden is one of the new weapons who can help Love do just that. Green Bay’s QB1 has already been impressed by Golden.
Love shared with ESPN’s Kevin Clark that he was surprised by how polished Golden was from day one. These are the kind of traits that separate first round picks from late round picks. Golden has already shown he is ready to make an impact in the league right away, and has been involved in several highlight plays throughout training camp.
Matthew Golden with his best catch — by far — in training camp. Jordan Love’s throw was ahead of Golden in back of the end zone but somehow — the rookie WR fully extends and keeps his feet in bounds by centimeters for the touchdown.
This guy is having himself a #Packers camp.

While unofficial depth charts do not have Golden among the team’s starting receivers, that does not mean Golden is not ready to make a huge impact on the team right away.
Can’t remember the last time a #Packers rookie came into training camp and impressed as much as Matthew Golden has.
Green Bay finally invested in a 1st rd WR & it has the chance to take this offense to the next level. Gonna be intriguing to see Golden get worked in the offense.

Jordan Love Calls Matthew Golden is Tremendously Talented, Says Attention to Detail is What Will Separate Him
Like any rookie, learning an NFL playbook is a massive step up from the college game. In addition to having many more plays to learn, each play become more complicated – particularly in head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense.
Love told Clark that while Golden is still working on mastering the playbook, there is a notable aggressiveness to his game when he is confident in what he is doing. On certain plays, Golden shows the best version of himself that is ready to terrorize NFL defenses. The trick now is to be able to bring that into every play.
“For him, it’s just continue to understand the playbook and wrap his head around everything that we have in, because we have a very deep system. But you can see, when he knows what he’s doing and he’s feeling confident, he’s been playing lights out.”

Golden’s speed, smooth route-running, and aggressive hands have already endeared him to Love. As training camp wears on, Golden will continue to grow in knowledge and confidence. Fans will continue to eagerly await his Packers debut on September 7th against the Detroit Lions.
