The Green Bay Packers have some questions that need answering regarding their roster. During his end of season press conference, general manager Brian Gutekunst stated that it was time for his team to start seriously contending for championships. Despite making the NFL Playoffs in each of the past two seasons, Jordan Love and many other young Packers players were still plagued with mistakes and poor decision making.
But Gutekunst’s message is clear: Green Bay needs veterans who will not make those mistakes, and his current players need to take a step forward. In order to do that, though, the Packers will need to part ways with some players that, frankly, no longer fit on the team.
It Appears Likely that the Green Bay Packers Will Part Ways with Jaire Alexander

One of the players that many believe the Packers will move on from is two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. There is no question that, when healthy, Alexander is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL. The problem, as Packers fans know all too well, is that he has rarely been healthy over the last four seasons.
Indeed, out of a possible 68 regular season games since 2021, Alexander has played in 34 of them. And while Green Bay can certainly afford to keep the two-time Pro Bowler in 2025, the indication is that the player himself does not want to be there.
When the media approached Alexander in the Packers locker room the day after the team lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card round, he told them that he had nothing good to say and that he was not sure if he was going to be back next year.
Even before this interaction, there were rumors that there was a disconnect between Alexander and the Packers over how his knee injury should be treated. As it turns out, the team wanted him to play through it while the star cornerback wanted surgery.
In the end, he got the surgery even though he had been a full participant in practice in the weeks leading up to the end of the regular season.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Kurt Benkert Suggests a Jaire Alexander for DK Metcalf Trade

Former Packers quarterback Kurt Benkert, who is an NFL analyst for several organizations, recently posted a video on Bleacher Report in which he suggests the Packers trade the disgruntled cornerback to the Seattle Seahawks for Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf:
“The Packers seem like the type of organization — which I can vouch for — that will move a guy to move a guy, even if he is a star player,” Benkert said.
“Now, it has been made very clear that the Packers need a No. 1 receiver, and I think that DK Metcalf is the type of receiver that warrants being a No. 1 in Green Bay.
“Get a guy that when they load the box up can block but can also win one-on-one outside as a big body, play in the cold and I think this could be a nice little swap.”
Last season, Metcalf had 66 receptions for 992 yards and five touchdowns. And while these numbers would certainly automatically make him the top target in the passing game for the Packers, it is his drop percentage, just 3.7%, which should be most appealing. Three of Green Bay’s top pass catchers had drop percentages over 10% in 2024.
Metcalf would certainly make the Packers offense better, but it takes two teams to make a trade work. Would Seattle be willing to give up a two-time Pro Bowl pass catcher entering the prime of his career for a cornerback who, though immensely talented, has played just 50% of his team’s games over the last four years?
The Packers would likely have to kick in a draft pick or two.
