The Green Bay Packers are 11-4 and have already clinched a spot in the NFL Playoffs for the second year in a row. One of the biggest reasons for their regular season success has been the play of running back Josh Jacobs, who was signed in free agency to replace Aaron Jones, the third leading rusher in franchise history.
It is rare that the Packers make any big-name signings in free agency, so the acquisition of Jacobs was a great (but pleasant) surprise for fans. Despite the fact that Jones was (and still is) highly respected and loved by the fanbase, there is no denying the fact that the offense is better with Jacobs.
Indeed, the 2022 NFL rushing leader is special. On Thursday, Green Bay’s offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said of him, “When you’re around it, and you see it live, there’s a couple plays every game where you’re just like, ‘Holy cow, this guy is special.'”
Just how special? Well, in his first season with the Packers, he already has one of the top-10 rushing seasons in franchise history.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Is Well on His Way to Being a Franchise Legend
Through 15 games this season, Jacobs ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards (1,216), fourth in rushing attempts (278), and is tied for third among running backs in rushing touchdowns (13). Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has 14, as do star running backs Derrick Henry of the Baltimore Ravens and Saquon Barkley of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Simply put, Jacobs’ 2024 season, 278 rushing attempts for 1,216 yards and 13 touchdowns, as been one of the best in the NFL. Almost all of those numbers also rank in the top-10 in Green Bay’s franchise history.

As one can see, Jacobs’ 278 rushing attempts are already a top-10 total, but Eddie Lacy and Terdell Middleton each had 284 in different seasons. With just two carries this upcoming week when the Packers play the Minnesota Vikings, Jacobs can move into the top-10 in this category.
