The Green Bay Packers are gearing up for an NFL playoff warmup this coming Sunday, with Josh Jacobs and company hosting the Chicago Bears at Lambeau Field. But since the Packers have already locked up a playoff spot, they don’t necessarily have to go all out with their starters against the Bears, even with seeding implications.
Jacobs is not even expecting to have his usual workload versus the Bears.
“Just being honest, being realistic, I don’t see me taking that many carries in this game,” the star running back said, per Ryan Wood of USA TODAY.
“Obviously, I want to play. I’m going to push to play, and I’m playing. But I don’t see myself taking 30 carries.”
However, Jacobs also said that he has the desire to play even if seeing action will expose him to the risk of suffering an injury. For one, he’s healthy. He also wants to go out swinging in the final regular-season game with quarterback Jordan Love.
“If I was battling with something right now, it would be more of a decision, do I want to play, do I not? ,” Jacobs shared (via Wood).
“But for me, man, what I bring to this team, the tone set and things like that, I think it’s important for guys to see me out there. I feel like if Jordan is playing, if all these other guys are playing, I need to be out there too.”
Green Bay Packers RB Josh Jacobs could break a franchise record in Week 18
Even if Jacobs sees action against the Bears, it’s possible that Emmanuel Wilson would see more snaps than the former Alabama Crimson Tide running back.
But another motivation for Jacobs to play in Week 18 is the chance to set a new Green Bay franchise record. He is currently tied with Packers legend Paul Hornung for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown with seven.
On the season, Jacobs has 1,285 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 295 rushing attempts through 16 games.
