The Green Bay Packers concluded their 2025 NFL preseason with a 20-7 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday. Now, the team and its fans will turn their attention to the upcoming regular season as they hope that they can take the next step towards Super Bowl contention.
Of course, there is a great deal to be excited about regarding this team heading into the season. Quarterback Jordan Love assured fans that he will be 100% healthy for Week One after needing a small procedure to fix a left thumb injury he suffered in the first week of the preseason. After playing through injuries for the majority of the 2024 season, Love will hopefully be healthy for the majority of this season, which will lead to even more improved play from him.
Indeed, Love received some criticism last year and during this offseason because his numbers did not improve much from 2023 to 2024. In his first season as the Packers starting quarterback, he had a 64.2% completion percentage, 4,159 passing yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.1 passer rating.
Last season (15 games), Love had a 63.1% completion percentage, 3,389 passing yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.7 passer rating.
The Green Bay Packers Drafted Matthew Golden to Help Solve Their Drop Issues

While Love’s overall stats seem to indicate that he did not make much of an improvement for his first year as a starter, if any, it is important to view his 2024 within context. The fact of the matter is Packers pass catchers had the third-most dropped passes in the NFL last season.
Per Bet MGM, the Cleveland Browns (48) and New York Jets (40) were the only teams who had more than Green Bay’s 33.
Furthermore, Christian Watson, who had just two drops (3.8% drop percentage) all year and was the team’s most sure-handed wide receiver in 2024, is going to miss the start of the 2025 NFL season due to needing to recover from a torn ACL.
The Packers other top wide receivers, Jayden Reed (nine), Dontayvion Wicks (nine), and Romeo Doubs (seven), were all among the NFL leaders in dropped passes.
Due to these issues, Green Bay decided to invest heavily in the wide receiver position during the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Matthew Golden in the first round and Savion Williams in the third.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Has High Praise Matthew Golden

For his part, Golden has been impressive all summer during OTA’s, training camp practices, and preseason games. His one reception for 39 yards against the Seahawks on Saturday blew up on social media due to the high level of difficulty of the catch with a defender closely guarding him.
On Friday, Packers running back Josh Jacobs joined “Up and Adams” hosted by Kay Adams, and was asked about his opinion on Green Bay’s newest star wideout.
“Ooooooeeeee”. 🧨
I probably spelled that wrong but that’s how Josh Jacob describes rookie WR Matthew Golden. 😂 @UpAndAdamsShow #GoPackGo pic.twitter.com/ngNYN89kpj

“He’s good, man. I mean, I don’t want to give him like too much, but he’s going to be a dog. I like him. I love the way he goes about practice.
“He finishes hard, he works hard, he picks up the playbook, and he catches the ball. I mean, he’s going to be one of them one’s.”
Golden, as fans are quick to say, is the first wide receiver the Packers used a first round draft pick on since 2002. As such, many are excited to see him play and expect him to have a big role in the offense this season.
And based on what Jacobs and others around the team are saying, it sounds like he will meet those expectations.
