The 2025 NFL season brings an opportunity for Green Bay Packers running back MarShawn Lloyd to have a fresh start again for the team.
His rookie season was a redshirt year of sorts, as he was barely seen on the field, thanks to health issues. The former USC Trojans star tailback dealt with a litany of injuries to his hip, hamstring and ankle. On top of those, he had an appendicitis before missing the rest of the campaign.
Lloyd is finally healthy and even participated in the minicamp last June.
“I’m doing good, really good,” Lloyd said at the time (h/t Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk). “Running as fast as I can, can jump as high as I want, can catch the ball. I’m doing pretty good.”
Jacobs excited about Lloyd being back on the field amid the start of Green Bay Packers training camp

While Lloyd was battling injuries, the Packers relied heavily on the legs of Josh Jacobs in their ground attack. Jacobs answered the call in his first season with Green Bay, as he returned to the 1,000-yard level after a lukewarm 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders. In 2024, Jacobs rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries
“Man, I’m really happy for him man. Y’all don’t understand how hard he works one,” Jacobs said of Lloyd on Wednesday when he was asked for his thoughts on his teammate.
“I mean, you know, he was in he was in here a lot working, but he’s a hard worker man. And I know mentally how much it weighed on them, you know, not being able to be out there with the guys and to be who he is. So me, I just try to encourage him, you know, we see the special abilities that he has. He’s going to help this team, you know, so for me, man, I just try to encourage him to keep being who he is and you know to try to be a little better.”

Jacobs will be Green Bay’s RB1 as long as he’s healthy, but Lloyd will be in competition for the top role behind the former Alabama Crimson Tide star over fellow running backs Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks.
