As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end.” Such was the case for the Green Bay Packers 11-game win streak over the Chicago Bears as the team from the Windy City got a win over their oldest rivals for the first time in the Matt LaFleur Era. It also marked the end of the Bears’ 11-game losing streak this season as they finish yet another disappointing season 5-12.
All in all, it was a highly forgettable game for the Packers, who once again failed to get off to a fast start, punting on their first three offensive possessions. While spirits may be low among the fans, though, there were some positives. Brandon McManus drilled a 55-yard field goal in the frigid cold and continued what has become one of the best kicking seasons in franchise history.
Speaking of franchise history, Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs made some himself on Sunday.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Broke a Record Held by Hall of Famer Paul Hornung
With the Packers trailing 14-3 in the second quarter, Jordan Love and the Packers offense marched down the field and into the red zone. Jacobs took a handoff nine yards and into the end zone for a touchdown. McManus made the extra point to make it 14-10.
It was the eight consecutive game in which Jacobs had a rushing touchdown. That is now a Packers franchise record.
Hall of Fame running back Paul Hornung previously held the record of seven consecutive games with a rushing touchdown, which he set in 1960.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Josh Jacobs Reached a Mark no Franchise Running Back Had Since Ahman Green
Jacobs only played for the first quarter and a half of the game in an effort to keep him fresh for the NFL Playoffs. In that time, though, he had six rushing attempts for 44 yards and the aforementioned touchdown.
Those 44 yards gave him 1,329 season, making him the first Packers running back since Ahman Green in 2003 to eclipse 1,300 rushing yards in a season.
In 2003, Green set a Packers franchise record with 1,883 yards (which did not lead the NFL that year; Jamal Lewis had 2,066).
