Jordan Love is not in the level of Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen heading into the 2025 season, that’s what most analyst say about the Green Bay Packers quarterback. This view receive a stamp of approval from NFL coaches and executives and Love gets a tempered placement in The Athletics’ 2025 Quarterbacks ranking.

Around 50 coaches and executives around the league were tasked to rank players in each position and in the recently released QB ranking, Love finds himself in Tier 2, the same place he was at last season.
Tier 1 is composed of recent MVPs and Super Bowl champions. Kansas Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes take the number one overall spot. Other players in Tier 1 are two-time MVP Lamar Jackson (Baltimore Ravens), last year’s MVP Josh Allen (Buffalo Bills).
Two-time Comeback Player of the Year Joe Burrow of Cincinnati Bengals complete the Top 5. Burrow is the only one without an MVP or Super Bowl in tier 1.

Jordan Love is 13th overall as part of Tier 2 which is led by Jayden Daniels of Washington Commandeers. Also in this tier are last Super Bowl winner Jalen Hurts (Philadelphia Eagles), 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year CJ Stroud of Houston Texans, veteran Baker Mayfield (Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Dak Prescott (Dallas Cowboys, and Brock Purdy (San Francis 49ers), Justin Herbert (LA Chargers), and Jared Goff (Detroit Lions).
Jordan Love does not scare coaches
Love rose one spot from last year. Executives believes he is a good starting QB. However, inconsistency is what’s preventing him from getting ranked higher.
They believe he has the skills but he is not scary enough.
“When we faced him last year, I felt like if you could get to him, you could rattle him,” a defensive coach was quoted as saying.
“He distributes the ball, and they have big skill (players who are) tough to bring down. That is how he makes his hay. I do not watch him and think, ‘Oh, he is f—ing people up.'”

One coach compared him to Las Vegas Raiders’ Geno Smith who is notable for his inconsistencies in early years as a pro but managed to carve a longer NFL career, even getting named as Comeback Player of 2022.
“He is like what you wish Geno Smith was,” an offensive coach said.
“He is a little bit of a gunslinger, and at times it gets him in trouble, but he is more consistently good than bad, where Geno is more toward the middle or back of that. Jordan has the physical talent to get away with it better.”
Love did not make a good account of himself in first pre-season game but since there nothing at stake in it, analysts are not over analyzing.
Packers will have their first game of the 2025 season on September 7 against the Detroit Lions.
