The Green Bay Packers suffered a demoralizing Wild Card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. They lost 22-10 and struggled to get any offense going against the number one ranked defense.
Green Bay struggled against great teams all season, going 0-6 versus teams with 13+ wins. After making it to the divisional round last year, the struggle shouldn’t be this real.
Cleaning Up The Stench
Jordan Love posted a putrid stat line of 0 TD and 3 INT. The $220 million dollar man has struggled with interceptions throughout his career thus far, and he has to cut them down.
It’s not just interceptions that plague Love. His decision making and shaky pocket presence needs to be polished. He knows that he must become more than effective to lead Green Bay to the promised land. The turnovers were costly in the Wild Card loss to Philly, and he knows they were a big reason for losses over the course of the entire season.
“I think that’s really the thing that hurt us in a lot of games,” Love said of their self-inflicted offensive mistakes. “I feel like a lot of the times this season, it felt like we’re not getting beat by the other team, we’re kind of beating ourselves.
“So, whether it’s penalties, turnovers, stalled drives, things like that, I think it all comes back down to just the details and execution.”
Health Is Wealth
The Packers were dropping like flies on Sunday evening. Already without Christian Watson, Green Bay also lost Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs during the game versus the Eagles.
Green Bay needs an entire unit to be successful and go deep into the playoffs. In the offseason they need to add another wide receiver, particularly one who is already established.
Names like Tee Higgins will be on the market, and he will be the highest pursued wideout. Jordan Love needs a guy like this to really breakthrough. Reed, Wicks, Doubs and Watson are solid, but they are not number ones in the NFL. Getting a true number one receiver will create a hectic challenge for opposing teams.
Is He The Guy?
As of right now, yes, Jordan Love is the guy for the Packers. In order to remain the guy though, he cannot have seasons like the 2024 season again.
Love is one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL, and he has to prove his worth for an organization that waited some years for him to play.
Head coach Matt LaFleur is one of Jordan Love’s biggest fans, and he knows he will need him in order to Green Bay to be successful. The 2025 season will be the biggest test for Love and the Packers, and they must show improvement.
“I love Jordan Love and how he competes and the work he puts in, and I think he’s gonna get better and better and better,” LaFleur told reporters. “Certainly, there’s some lessons along the way, some tough lessons anytime you end up in defeat, that’s hard to deal with. He is very critical of himself, and I think he does such a great job of learning from every experience.
“So, I think, through this, we’ll all be better for it … I think there’s going to be a lot of learning over the course in the next however many months before next (season) arises.”
