The Green Bay Packers are heading into the second season of the Jeff Hafley experience on the defensive side of the ball. Hafley had success as the architect of the team’s defense in the 2024 NFL season.
As Joe Barry’s successor, the former Boston College Eagles head coach guided the Packers’ stop unit into finishing fifth in the league last season with just 20.0 points allowed per game and fourth with 313.2 total yards surrendered per contest.
Forcing turnovers was a big part of Green Bay defense’s identity in 2024, with the team averaging 1.7 takeaways per contest.
In Hafley’s second season as the Packers defensive coordinator, he wants to see his unit further elevate its performance, which he has consistently emphasized at training camp.

Despite the big results of Green Bay’s defense in 2024, Hafley isn’t going to rest on their laurels.
Via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
“The No. 1 emphasis this training camp over everything is, one, playstyle … how hard we’re gonna play, how physical we’re gonna play, how we run to the ball. That’s non-negotiable.” Hafley said. “Two, we have to force more fumbles. … We want to lead the league in forced fumbles. We are going to have to work at it, and that’s very important to us.”
Forcing turnovers to get the talented group of Jordan Love and company extra possessions will be a huge boost for Green Bay in 2025, as the Packers look to surpass their 11-win campaign in 2024 and have a deeper run in the NFL playoffs.
