After weeks of speculation, the Green Bay Packers confirmed that star cornerback Jaire Alexander is out for the rest of the 2024 season due to a knee injury.
“Ja, most likely, is going to be done for the rest of the year,” Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said via Kelly Hallinan of NBC 26 News. “It’s unfortunate. It is what it is. I feel for him. He was trying to get his knee right, and it wasn’t getting right. It’s a tough deal for all of us.”
Alexander has missed the last six games due to a knee injury he sustained against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 8. He only played 10 snaps during their Week 11 victory against the Chicago Bears after their Bye Week before being shut down again.
Before hurting his knee in Week 8, the Louisville product also missed two games early in the 2024 campaign due to a groin injury.
Jaire Alexander will finish his 2024 campaign with 16 combined tackles (15 solo, 1 assisted) and two interceptions, including his first career pick-six.
Jaire Alexander could return if the Green Bay Packers make it to the Super Bowl, per insider
Adam Schefter was one of the first few reporters to break the unfortunate news regarding Jaire Alexander. In his X post, the ESPN senior NFL insider added that the star cornerback could make it back in the lineup if the Green Bay Packers reach the Super Bowl.
Moreover, regenerative medicine expert Dr. Jesse Morse, MD explained the severity of Jaire Alexander’s PCL injury.
“He was likely dealing with a torn meniscus in addition to his (likely) moderate PCL sprain. The PCL sprain was healing by the (likely) unstable medical tear was preventing him from returning,” Morse wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“The surgeon likely went in & trimmed out the meniscus and removed any floating particles. Alexander would be able to return in 2-4 weeks after this procedure. They likely didn’t repair the meniscus or that would have been season-ending (3-6+ months) or any ligament reconstructions (same reasoning),” he concluded.
