Regardless of how the past couple of seasons went, Green Bay Packers fans were always huge supporters of oft-injured cornerback Jaire Alexander. Not only is he a two-time Pro Bowler and two-time Second Team All-Pro, but Alexander’s flamboyant personality, both on the field and in his interviews, made him one of the most popular Packers players.
Unfortunately, though, he was rarely able to stay on the field due a multitude of injuries that he sustained in three of the previous four seasons. A severe shoulder injury limited Alexander to just four games in 2021. And after playing a full season in 2022, the star cornerback played in 14 games combined in 2023 and 2024.
It was his torn PCL last season, which was suffered in Week Eight, that all but ended the star cornerback’s tenure in Green Bay. He played 10 snaps for the Packers against the Chicago Bears in Week 10, but took himself out of the contest early. Alexander did not play again.
Former Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Now Plays for the Baltimore Ravens

After leaving the Bears’ game, Alexander was kept off of injured reserve as the team hoped that he would be able to return later in the season. And while he was a frequent full participant in practices towards the end of the season, he was always always scratched from the active roster.
Of course, Alexander also did not play in Green Bay’s postseason loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The day after the game, while Packers players were cleaning out their lockers, he told the media that he had “nothing good to say” and that he was not sure if he would return to the team in 2025.
This sparked weeks of trade speculation, and Green Bay did try to move the two-time Pro Bowl cornerback in the days leading up to the NFL Draft. Obviously, no suitable offers were made and Alexander remained on the roster, and even worked out with Packers safety Xavier McKinney during the offseason.
As the days went by and organized team activities began, there were talks that Green Bay and Alexander were discussing a revised contract for the 2025 season. However, the star cornerback would not agree to the Packers’ terms, so the team decided to release him.
Alexander eventually signed a one-year $6 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens, joining his college teammate, two-time NFL MVP Lamar Jackson.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to Israel Abanikanda Getting Jaire Alexander’s Number 23

Alexander wore jersey number 23 for the Packers and will wear the same for Baltimore. While no one expected Green Bay to save or retire his old jersey number, many were not prepared to see new running back Israel Abanikanda get it:

Given the state of Green Bay’s running back room, which consists of Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, Marshawn Lloyd, and Chris Brooks, it is not likely that Abanikanda will make the roster, and fans will not see #23 on the field for a while.
