Green Bay Packers: Former Packers kicker was signed to 49ers practice squad

Former Green Bay Packers Kicker Anders Carlson was signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad. Niners adding some insurance after Matthew Wright injured his shoulder last week.

The 49ers lost their starting kickers each of the last two weeks to injuries in Jake Moody and Matthew Wright. Originally, it was thought that Wright avoided a serious injury, but this signing shows he still may miss time.

Carlson was a 2023 sixth-round pick that got waived by Green Bay in August after he made 27 of 33 FGs and 34 of 39 XPs as a rookie. Narveson (12/17) has almost matched Carlson’s misses total from 2023 just six weeks into the season.

If the Packers were going to play Russian roulette with their kicking situation, they were better off just biting the bullet and toughing it out with Anders Carlson. Kicker Anders Carsons and offensive lineman Nick Brahams for received First Team Academic All-American Honors from COSIDA. It is the first time since 1984 that Auburn has had two first-team honorees in the same season.

It appears Carlson will be kicking field goals for Auburn for a ninth consecutive year. Anders Carlson returned to Auburn for a second senior season after a knee injury disrupted his 2021 season. He has made 67 Auburn field goals. His brother Daniel kicked 92 from 2014-17.

Auburn’s Anders Carlson was tabbed the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week after helping Auburn beat Alabama 48-45. He hit all four of his field goal tries, from 43, 52, 43 and 44 yards to become the first Auburn player to hit four field goals of 40-plus yards in a game in 25 years.

Packers kicker Anders Carlson missed a 41-yard field goal attempt against the San Francisco 49ers on the playoffs. San Francisco defeated Green Bay in a close game 24-21 on Jan. 20, 2024.

Carlson is an 81.8% field goal Kicker and he’s an 87.2% extra point kicker. His career long is a 53-yard FG in 2023.
