The Green Bay Packers will face the Chicago Bears in Week 18 for the final game of the 2024 NFL regular season. At 11-5, the Packers are currently in the seventh seed in the NFC, but can improve to the sixth seed if they win on Sunday and the Washington Commanders lose to the Dallas Cowboys. Regardless, they are going to the playoffs.
Unfortunately, they now face the reality of facing Chicago in Week 18, as well as any teams they will encounter in the NFL Playoffs, without one of their best players.
On Wednesday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur announced that two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander was getting season-ending surgery on his injured knee.
Green Bay Packers Fans React to Jaire Alexander Getting Season-Ending Surgery
Green Bay’s fans have been debating Alexander, how serious his injury is, and what his future what the organization will be for weeks now.
Needless to say, the announcement of his injury was met with a wide range of responses:
Last year, the #Packers moved on from a great running back who had injury issues and replaced him with a more durable free agent.
I wonder if they’ll do the same thing at cornerback this year…

I think that’s it man. I’d be ecstatic to see him on the roster next season but I just don’t know if they will.

Alexander originally tore his PCL in Week Eight, a win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Green Bay hoped that two weeks off would be enough for him to be healthy enough to play, and they brought him back in Week 11 against Chicago.
But Alexander could only play 10 snaps before he pulled himself out of the game, citing his knee injury. Obviously, it was a great deal worse than the team thought it was, as they kept trying to keep him practicing despite his obvious injury.
Now, in the final week of the season, Alexander is finally going to get the surgery he probably should have had weeks ago.
Whether he returns in 2025 is still uncertain. Green Bay could save $6.8 million by releasing him.
