Even though the Green Bay Packers are headed to the postseason for the second year in a row, there is no denying that there are certain positions on the team that need be be addressed in the offseason. One of these is the linebacker position, where Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, and Eric Wilson have not played up to expectations.
On the bright side, though, Green Bay at least has rookie Edgerrin Cooper, whom they selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Walker’s recent ankle injury has opened the door for Cooper to play more, and he has taken advantage of the opportunity.
So far this season, Cooper has 80 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, an interception, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
Every week, it seems as if he does something special, but it was what he did last week against the Minnesota Vikings that made him a part of NFL history.
Green Bay Packers Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper Joined Micah Parson on an Exclusive List
In Green Bay’s last game, a 27-25 loss to the Vikings, Cooper recorded 11 tackles, four of which were tackles for loss. According to NFL research, he became the first NFL rookie to post that many tackles and tackles for loss in a game since Dallas Cowboys All-Pro Micah Parsons:
Per NFL Research, in Minnesota, LB Edgerrin Cooper became 1st rookie since Micah Parsons in 2021 to record at least 10 tackles & 4 TFL in single game.
Cooper leads all rookies with 12 TFL. He’s played 433 defensive snaps (52% of the #Packers‘ total).

Interestingly, Parsons also accomplished the feat against the Vikings. On October 31, 2021, he also had 11 combined tackles, four of which were for a loss.
As Wes Hodkiewicz points out above, what has been so impressive about Cooper’s performance and stats this season is the fact that he has only played 52% of the defense’s snaps. In the loss to Minnesota, though, he played 99% of the defense’s plays.
It marked the third straight week in which Cooper saw his playing time increase. He played 58% against the Seattle Seahawks in his first game back from injury. He had seven tackles (which led the team), a sack, two tackles for loss, an interception, and two passes defended.
The following week against the New Orleans Saints, he played 70% of the defensive plays and had a team-high 10 tackles, one of which was a tackle for loss.
