The Green Bay Packers drafted linebacker Edgerrin Cooper in the second round (45th overall selection) in the 2024 NFL Draft. He played college football with the Texas A&M Aggies. When Green Bay drafted Cooper, they anticipated him starting right away, but it has taken him some time to get that role.
The Packers’ defense does have some holes, but Cooper is one of the strengths of this Packers’ defense during the 2024 season. Cooper is 6’2″ and weighs 229 lbs.
Edgerrin Cooper Of the Green Bay Packers Named To CBS All-Rookie Team
Jared Dubin of CBS Sports listed his all-rookie team in the NFL for the 2024 NFL season. On the defensive side of the football, he has Edgerrin Cooper of the Packers as one of the top rookie linebackers this season. Dubin said of Cooper:
“Green Bay has so desperately needed help on the second level of its defense for a while, and finally found a real keeper in Cooper. He’s had limited opportunities to rush the passer but has been unbelievably effective when asked to do so (four sacks and eight pressures on just 46 rushes), and he’s first among rookie linebackers in run stops. He’s occasionally been victimized in coverage by creative offenses, but that’s usually the last thing to come along for young off-ball linebackers.”
Cooper this season has recorded 80 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one interception, and four pass deflections. Edgerrin Cooper has so much room to improve in the immediate future with this football team.
Other Linebackers Who Made It
To go along with Cooper on the CBS All-Rookie Team, Payton Wilson of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Omar Speights of the Los Angeles Rams were the other linebackers who were named to this all-rookie team.
One of the main reasons why Cooper made is because the Packers are not deep at the linebacker position and he stood out during his rookie season. The former Texas A&M Aggies linebacker has a chance to be an All-Pro player in the future.
