The Green Bay Packers are 8-3 following their dominating 38-10 win over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday afternoon. They do not have much time to revel in the defeat of their hated NFC rivals as their next game, a Thanksgiving tilt with the 5-6 Miami Dolphins on Thursday night.
This is a game that Green Bay needs to win in order to keep pace with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings, both of whom are ahead of them in the standings of the NFC North. Miami, meanwhile, needs to continue their winning ways (they have won three in a row) in order to keep their postseason hopes alive.
Miami Dolphins Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa Spoke About Proving Narratives Wrong vs the Green Bay Packers
The last time that the Packers and Dolphins played each other was on Christmas Day of the 2022 NFL season. In that game Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa threw three interceptions in a game in Miami that Green Bay won 26-20.
The Dolphins, of course, play their home games in the warm weather of Florida. The temperature in Green Bay on Thursday is going to be rather cold, and many are already counting them out due to that.
After Miami’s most recent game, a 34-15 win over the New England Patriots, Tagovailoa told the media:
“Yeah, I mean I’m excited to kill narratives, so let’s go. Bring it on.
“It’s always great to enjoy the win. But there were some things second half-wise that we knew we could have capitalized on that we didn’t, things we said we wanted to do coming out in the second half that we didn’t and those can be frustrating.
“But I would say we’re still below the .500 threshold and it’s a long way to where we want to get to. We’ll enjoy this win, but this next one is going to be big for us, and we’re excited to go down to Green Bay and show everybody on primetime what we can do.”
Obviously, the Dolphins are highly motivated to come in and upset the Packers at Lambeau Field, which is why their most recent roster move is a bit of a head-scratcher.
The Miami Dolphins Released Safety Marcus Maye Ahead of Matchup with the Green Bay Packers
On Tuesday morning, it was reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network that the Dolphins had waived safety Marcus Maye:
Source: The #Dolphins are waiving veteran safety Marcus Maye.
Maye appeared in 11 games for Miami with three starts. They’d like to re-sign him to the practice squad if he clears.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) November 26, 2024
As Pelissero notes, Maye played in all 11 games that the Dolphins have had this year, and started three of them.
What makes his being waived confusing, at least from the view of a person who has not watched the Dolphins very closely, is that Maye is allowing a 56.3% completion percentage and 67.4 passer rating when targeted this year.
If he clears waivers, Pelissero notes that Miami would like to sign him to their practice squad, which would mean they could elevate him to their game day roster against Green Bay if that were to happen.
Still, Maye is playing well this year and may not clear waivers as there are plenty of teams that need safety help.
