The Green Bay Packers defense will be the number one priority in the 2025 NFL Draft. The two positions that they will need to address are the cornerback position and also the defensive line.
Green Bay has struggled to sack the quarterback this season and they also need help on the perimeter on defense. There will be many ways to address the defensive side of the football once the 2024 seasons for the Green Bay Packers.
CBS Sports Latest Mock Draft Has the Green Bay Packers Selecting Oregon Ducks Defensive Lineman Derrick Harmon
Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports created another 2025 NFL Mock Draft on Wednesday. He has the Green Bay Packers selecting 24th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft. With that selection, he has Green Bay taking Oregon Ducks defensive lineman Derrick Harmon. Trapasso said:
“The Packers get one of the breakout defensive stars of the 2024 season in Harmon, who’s a wide-bodied upfield rusher who holds his own against the run.”
Finding a run-stopper would also help the Packers’ defense. Harmon during his junior season with the Oregon Ducks recorded 45 tackles, five sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two pass deflections. Derrick Harmon is 6’5″ and weighs 310 lbs.
Scouting Report
NFLdraftbuzz.com posted some of Derrick Harmon’s strengths and weaknesses. Some of his strengths are as follows:
” Impressive physical specimen with an ideal frame for an NFL defensive tackle, boasting excellent height and weight combination, demonstrates good lateral agility for his size, allowing him to sidestep blockers and penetrate the backfield effectively, flashes ability to stack-and-shed against the run, anchoring well at the point of attack, and shows potential as an interior pass rusher with his combination of size and athleticism.”
Some of his weaknesses are:
“Pad level can be inconsistent, sometimes playing too high and negating his size advantage and hand usage and block-shedding technique need refinement to consistently disengage.”
The Green Bay Packers could no doubt use interior pass-rush help on the defensive line. Rashan Gary currently leads the team in sacks this season with 6.5 sacks. Derrick Harmon would be a very good value pick late in the first round.
The Green Bay Packers will probably focus on potentially drafting a cornerback in the early rounds. However, there is a chance that a very talented defensive lineman will be available toward the end of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
