Green Bay Packers fans joined with the rest of the NFL’s fanbase to watch former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady become to subject of a roast on a special Netflix live show. The special was met with mixed reactions from viewers.
Many found the jokes told at Brady’s and others’ expense to be offensive for a variety of reasons. One X (formerly Twitter) user posted: “The Roast of Tom Brady is racist.” Sam Block, who covers Ohio State for ESPN, posted, “Every racist loved the Brady Roast. Every homophobe loved the Brady Roast. Every misogynist loved the Brady Roast. Every antisemite loved the Brady Roast.”
There were, however, many who appreciated the dark and inappropriate humor. One of these viewers was former Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari.
Former Green bay Packers Fan-Favorite David Bakhtiari Praises the Tom Brady Roast
Bakhtiari, who made three Pro Bowls and was a five-time All-Pro during his tenure with the Packers, has long been a critic of what is known as politically correct (or PC) culture. The roast of Brady on Sunday night was far from being PC.
After viewing the roast for the second time, Bakhtiari posted the following:
“Guys, just rewatched the roast again. I can confidently say Tom Brady has killed PC culture. He is our Jesus Christ. He pretty much socially crucified himself on Netflix live for 3 hours while the world watched. He is a g– d— hero. We are healing. It’s marvelous.”
The comments to Bakhtiari’s post were as varied as the reception to the Brady roast itself. Some agreed with the former Packer left tackle, while others called him blasphemous for comparing the seven-time Super Bowl Champion to Jesus Christ.
What Is David Bakhtiari Doing Now that He is Not with the Green Bay Packers?
The Packers released Bakhtiari after another season cut short by injury. After suffering a torn ACL at the end of the 2020 NFL season, he was only able to play a total of 13 games over the next three seasons. While that was far from being his fault (every knee injury heals differently), his immense cap hit going into 2024 would have made him impossible to keep on the team even if he had been healthy.
Bakhtiari is currently a free agent and is free to sign with any team. As the offseason is well underway and nearly every high-profile free agent is now off the market, one may assume that the Packers’ former left tackle has not been medically cleared to play yet.
