The Green Bay Packers defeated the Seattle Seahawks by the score of 30-13 on Sunday Night Football. The road victory was the Packers’ first in Seattle since 2008, which was Aaron Rodgers‘ first year as Green Bay’s starting quarterback. In other words, it had been a while.
The win also improved the Packers’ record to 10-4 on the season. While they remain in third place in the NFC North, they only need to win next Monday night against the New Orleans Saints to clinch a spot in the NFL Playoffs.
There were many impressive performances in Green Bay’s victory over Seattle on Sunday night. Edgerrin Cooper, in his first game back from a hamstring injury, led the team in tackles, had a sack, and intercepted a pass while playing just 58% of the defensive snaps. Romeo Doubs, also in his first game back (concussion), caught two touchdown passes.
Green Bay Packers Wide Receiver Christian Watson Set a New Career High
While he did not score any touchdowns on Sunday night, Packers wide receiver Christian Watson led the team in targets (six) and receiving yards (56). He averaged 18.7 yards per catch on his three receptions, and now is averaging 21.4 yards per catch on the season, which is a career high.
What is impressive, also, is that his 56 receiving yards last night against the Seahawks gave him 620 on the season, which is also a new career high. Watson previously had 611 receiving yards as a rookie in 2022 and 422 in just nine games played last season.
Watson has received a great deal of unwarranted hate from some fans who criticized him for being injured too often during his first two seasons in the NFL. This season, however, he has missed just one game following an ankle sprain he suffered against the Minnesota Vikings.
The fact of the matter, too, is that Watson has been an invaluable weapon for the Packers offense. Of all the wide receivers taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, a group that includes Garrett Wilson, Drake London, George Pickens, and Jameson Williams, Watson has the second-most receiving touchdowns for his career (14).
The only wide receiver from that draft with more? That would be his teammate, Romeo Doubs, who has 15.
