The Green Bay Packers secured a dominant 34-0 victory over the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football to clinch their spot in the postseason. It was also the game where Chris Brooks scored the first rushing touchdown of his young NFL career.
With a two-score advantage after touchdowns from Dontayvion Wicks and Josh Jacobs, the Green Bay Packers made their way down to the one-yard line, putting them in a great position to score their third touchdown of the first half. The coaches wanted to sub in Josh Jacobs to score his second, but the two-time Pro Bowl running back let Chris Brooks do the honors.
“And I’m like, ‘Nah, let him get it,’” Jacobs said about Brooks via The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman. “He deserves it, and hopefully he get another one…Nobody is in this building more than him, so let me start there… We had a Christmas party and after the Christmas party, he was in here getting his body right.”
“He’s very intentional with what he wants to accomplish. He does never say no to whatever coaches have him do, whether it’s special teams or anything,” he added.
Chris Brooks is honored to have his first career touchdown with the Green Bay Packers
Chris Brooks was one of the top players for the Green Bay Packers against the New Orleans Saints. The 24-year-old running back recorded six carries for 23 rushing yards and one touchdown, in contrast to his one-carry, six-yard outing against the Seattle Seahawks last time out.
While he admitted he “sucks at interviews”, Brooks is happy to have his breakthrough moment in Green Bay and he expressed his gratitude to his teammates.
“It felt great. All the work that’s been put in and everything, everything’s paying off, so I’m happy. Couldn’t have done it on my own,” Brooks said.
