The Chicago Bears don’t plan on sitting rookie quarterback Caleb Williams in their season finale against the Green Bay Packers, despite having a 4-12 record after 10 consecutive losses.
Caleb Williams has been sacked an NFL-leading 67 times this season, so there are potential injury risks if he plays against the Green Bay Packers. But, according to interim coach Thomas Brown, the pros of playing Williams one more game outweigh the cons.
“As far as Caleb goes, as far as dialog about him not playing, that’s never come up or been talked about at all,” Brown said about Williams’ availability via Andrew Seligman of the Associated Press.
“There’s an opportunity that’s not guaranteed. And I take it very seriously because opportunities aren’t guaranteed. And one thing I hate more than anything is wasted time. When time is going, you don’t get it back. So I’m gonna maximize every moment I have. And so it’ll be the same process as far as this team for this game on Sunday,” he added.
Caleb Williams and the Chicago Bears seek revenge against the Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers notched a 20-19 victory against the Chicago Bears in Week 11, as Karl Brooks blocked Chicago’s late field goal attempt in the final play. Caleb Williams completed 23 of his 31 passes, but he was sacked thrice and had no touchdowns.
Caleb Williams has been criticized for holding the ball for too long, which has contributed to the hits he has taken. Despite this, he still has the vote of confidence from his team, including tight end Cole Kmet.
“Caleb is super talented and he’s got all the tools that you need for a quarterback in this league. But that being said, you can’t replace experience, and all of those teams, they’ve got experienced guys and guys who have kind of been through it, so they definitely got a jump-start in that regard on him,” Kmet said about Williams.
“But I do think you see the biggest jumps in guys from Year 1 to Year 2, and I’m sure Caleb is gearing up for that as well,” he concluded.
