The Green Bay Packers are looking to get number one wide receiver help for quarterback Jordan Love this offseason, Many fans could agree that the wide receiver position took a step back during the 2024 season.
Some thought that one of the wide receivers on the roster would be able to go over 1,000 yards receiving, but no one on the roster accomplished that for the second season in a row. To go along with the wide receiver woes, they need some help on the defensive line. The Packers have been linked to trading for Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett this offseason.
Fansided.com Thinks That the Green Bay Packers Should Avoid Signing Former Cleveland Browns Wide Receiver Amari Cooper This Offseason
During the 2024 season, the Browns traded away wide receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills. Many thought that Cooper would have made an impact with the Bills, but he did not do as much damage as he hoped for.
Amari Cooper will be a free agent and it is quite possible that Buffalo will not re-sign him. Cooper is 30 years old. He has played for four different NFL teams and has been in the NFL since 2015. Fansided.com writer Rucker Haringey mentioned five players on the free-agent market that the Green Bay Packers should avoid. Amari Cooper was one of the players that Haringey mentioned. Rucker Haringey said:
“Amari Cooper will hit free agency as one of the biggest name wideouts on the open market. He was reasonably productive for the Bills in 2024 but he has one fatal flaw that should cause the Packers to stay away.
Cooper struggled mightily with drops in Buffalo and failed to reel in over 15 percent of the catchable passes hurled in his direction per PFF. Dontayvion Wicks already gives head coach Matt LaFleur’s offense problems with his inability to make routine catches. Adding another receiver who is prone to drops would not be a savvy edition for the Packers’ front office.
Cooper is also a prime candidate to experience age-related regression over the course of his next deal. He’ll be playing his age-31 next season which is right around hte time most receivers start to drop off. He’ll be looking for a lucrative, multi-year deal in free agency and that should cause Green Bay to look elsewhere for receiver help.”
Cooper this past season with the Buffalo Bills and the Cleveland Browns caught 44 passes for 547 yards receiving and four touchdowns, along with averaging 12.4 yards per reception. He was also targeted 85 times. Amari Cooper is not the dominant wide receiver he was once with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Dallas Cowboys.
Other Options
There will be other options for the Green Bay Packers on the table other than Amari Cooper. There will be players on the trade market this offseason like Deebo Samuel of the San Francisco 49ers and D.K. Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks. Metcalf would be a better option over Cooper, but Samuel may not be a better option than the former Cleveland Browns wide receiver.
There will be a lot of questions about what the Packers do at the wide receiver position. Green Bay needs to make the right moves this offseason or the wide receiver room will stay the same during the 2025 NFL season.
