During the start of training camp last year, the Green Bay Packers had a kicking competition between Greg Joseph, Anders Carlson, and others. Joseph and Carlson both did not make the team and they decided to claim Brayden Narveson off of waivers from the Tennessee Titans before the start of the 2024 season.
During the first few weeks of the season, Narveson struggled for the Packers and they decided to let him go. Green Bay decided to sign Brandon McManus for the rest of the season and there were some mixed reactions about it. McManus is a free agent and it will be interesting to see if the Green Bay Packers decide to bring him back next year or not.
Green Bay Packers Meet With Potential Brandon McManus Replacement Ryan Fitzgerald During Senior Bowl
A lot of needs for the Packers this offseason are cornerback, wide receiver, and defensive line. However, there is one position of need that the Green Bay Packers fanbase seems to be forgetting about that is a field goal kicker.
During the senior bowl, one name that the Packers met with was Florida State Seminoles field goal kicker Ryan Fitzgerald. Easton Butler said on Twitter:
“The Packers met with FSU K Ryan Fitzgerald at the Senior Bowl, per
. Fitzgerald had a zoom meeting with GM Brian Gutekunst.”
Interestingly, the Packers met with a field goal kicker. If they do not re-sign McManus, there is a chance that they could draft kicker Ryan Fitzgerald in the later rounds. He is 6’1″ and weighs 190 lbs. Fitzgerald was 13-13 last year in field goals. He made 5-for-5 from 50 plus yards and his longest was 59 yards.
Ryan Fitzgerald also had 14 extra points last season with the Seminoles. This could be one of the kickers who could get drafted by the Packers or somebody else in the 2025 NFL Draft also.
