Green Bay Packers defensive end Barryn Sorrell has put in the work during his first NFL training camp. Halfway through the practice schedule ahead of the preseason opener on August 9, he’s looking forward to the team’s Family Night tradition to be held this Saturday. Fans have already been turning out in droves.
Sorrell embraces nose to the grindstone mindset leading up to Green Bay Packers Family Night showcase
“Man I’m excited,” Sorrell said yesterday. “The fans here, they always show up. Just for these open practices, it’s been great, just the atmosphere, so I’m already knowing this upcoming Saturday’s going to be a great atmosphere. I’m just ready to go out there and compete with the guys and practice again, get better, but also embrace the fanbase.”

Not only is fan presence fun, it can also be a motivator, as for Sorrell’s Texas teammate Matthew Golden.
Competitive spirit is high enough as is, bleeding through in a chippy last couple of practices. First, cornerback Nate Hobbs drew Matt LaFleur’s ire for delivering a low hit on running back Marshawn Lloyd. Then on Tuesday, LaFleur pulled the first unit on offense and made them run laps after an unnecessary takedown by tackle Rasheed Walker. Sorrell wasn’t surprised by the energy levels.
“Yeah, the intensity was definitely high, but I mean that’s what football is. We’re out here, we’re trying to compete. Everybody’s out here trying to make plays and get better. So the intensity, that’s just what’s going to happen.”

The rookie pass rusher has put in quality reps himself, earning an A-plus grade from LaFleur. “I feel like be both know the recipe to success. It all starts with the work, and we both value that.”
Sorrell’s perserverance stood out to the Packers during the draft, when he remained in Green Bay, the site of the festivities, despite not hearing his name called through day two. His father, for one, predicted that the Packers will be rewarded for their selection.

Looking ahead to Saturday, Sorrell said he’s familiar with a supportive crowd from his four years as a Longhorn. “I’m interested to see what it’s going to look like on Family Night, but at Texas they definitely showed out too. I always say I played for a good fanbase, and I’m at an even – another good fanbase. So I’m just happy to go here and compete.”
