Former Green Bay Packers vice president Andrew Brandt voiced his opinion on the Chicago Bears’ hiring of Ben Johnson as their new head coach. Brandt said this was a step in the right direction for Chicago, which means bad news for the other three teams in the NFC North.
“When I was in the NFC North, we looked around and when other teams made moves or non-moves, kept the people, that we thought, in our opinions, were not the best coaches or GMs, we smiled. That was a competitive advantage for us,” Brandt said on the Ross Tucker Podcast.
“We were hoping, in some situations, these teams would keep the people they had. Or when they hired new people, we didn’t think much of it. In this case, the Lions, the Vikings, and the Packers, not so much. As it appears right now, I think the Bears made a bold move that will elevate them,” he added.
Green Bay Packers fans react to the Chicago Bears hiring Ben Johnson
Johnson was widely viewed as one of the best coaching candidates this offseason, especially with his vast knowledge and experience in the NFC North as part of the Detroit Lions. Despite this, Green Bay Packers fans don’t seem to be moved by Johnson’s job switch.
“Is it a great hire? Yes. Are these still the Chicago Bears? Also, yes. One of the best teams at winning the offseason. Regular season? Yes, definitely one of the best offseason teams around. It is tempting to get excited about Williams and Johnson but…these are the Bears,” wrote a fan on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“Bears franchise so poverty 😂”
“It always starts out nice… and then the season starts 🤣” another Green Bay Packers fan said.
