The Green Bay Packers announced the numbers of all their draft picks today. Often, numbers can become synonymous with a player. The next time someone wears the number 12 it is going to be weird no matter when it happens. The number 17 was long occupied by Davante Adams before he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. Now, a surprising new draft pick will wear the number, rookie kicker Anders Carlson.

Green Bay Packers Anders Carlson To Wear No. 17
Carlson is going to have some tough shoes to fill in terms of the number. Adams still is a fan favorite even though he no longer plays for the team. Mason Crosby is likely done with the team and the Packers are hoping to find the kicker for the next 20 years. The team is hoping that Carlson can be that guy. While he had a little bit of a rocky college career, a lot of that was due to injury. The Packers are hoping for full health and some coaching from special teams wizard Rich Bisaccia will whip Carlson into the league’s next great kicker.

Trust In Bisaccia
The pick was a little curious but I am trusting Bisaccia. This draft had his fingerprints all over it. If you read a lot of scouting reports on the picks, almost all of them have some special teams experience. Even the first-round pick Lukas Van Ness had two blocked kicks last season. Clearly, there was something that the team saw in Carlson that made them spend a draft pick on him. If he can become the kicker for the next 20 years, it will be a pick well spent.
It will be weird to see Anders Carlson in the number 17. It is always weird to see players in well-known numbers. However, fans should be cheering for Carlson. We’ve been spoiled with Crosby and hopefully, we can be spoiled by Carlson as well.
